Watch the first “Daily Show with Jon Stewart” following the September 11, 2001 terror attacks.

“I wanted to tell you why I grieve,” a tearful Jon Stewart said right before quipping, “luckily we can edit this out.”

Stewart later went on to say that the view from his apartment was the World Trade Center.

“Any fool can blow something up. Any fool can destroy,” Stewart said. “But to see these firefighters, and people from all over the country, literally with buckets, rebuilding…that is extraordinary, and that’s why we’ve already won.” [MTV Networks]
