the best beer in the world
and no art original

and every week drinkable

I think it’s a bit more focused in terms of the musical pieces.
The songwriting process was a lot more collaborative.
It matured in terms of subject matter.
We’ve played.

I almost ran over a
fucking snapping turtle
with my car today driving west
home from work through the
Indian reservation and the sun
tended to glint in a way that
collapsed the road in itself
right next to a school we’d travel to
as kids for basketball games
to barely play hard and still
crush them easy.
So this goddamn snapping turtle
looked like the afternoon light
threw a garbage bag over a
bowl of fruit or something
anything familiar
but it had a tail and twenty yards away I
could see a front leg lift and
drag forward.
Getting closer I ducked my car
over the centerline and passed it
checked my mirrors to make sure
the hundreds of cars behind me wouldn’t
barrel the motherfucker while it was still daylight and
shatter it
maybe hoping
one of them would.

you walked
a country block
everyday
it didn’t rain
you worked
until it hurt
and might’ve dreamed
of clean lungs
a rusty smile
a country mile
